Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accompanied by his family, voted at Booth No. 38 in Ahmedabad’s Naranpura area during the ongoing local body elections in Gujarat. The voting process encompassed municipal corporations, municipalities, district panchayats, and taluka panchayats, marking a significant democratic event in the state.
In Ahmedabad, a substantial voter turnout was witnessed across various wards of the Municipal Corporation, with a considerable number of citizens exercising their voting rights. Additionally, ICC Chairman Jay Shah participated in the civic elections by casting his vote.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Prabhu Vasava, in Bardoli, urged maximum voter participation, emphasizing the elections’ importance as a part of the democratic process. He highlighted the significance of citizens fulfilling their moral duty by casting their votes.
Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil, along with his family, including his elderly mother, voted at Uttar Gujarat Vidyalaya in Bhatar, Surat. Patil stressed the dual nature of voting as both a right and a responsibility, underscoring the essence of democratic participation.
The local body elections in Gujarat span urban and rural areas, encompassing municipal corporations, municipalities, district panchayats, and taluka panchayats. Polling commenced early in the day at numerous booths, featuring the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and stringent security measures.
Similar to Ahmedabad, extensive polling activities were observed in various districts like Surat, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, Morbi, Botad, and Tapi. The State Election Commission characterized the ongoing polling as a crucial democratic process at the grassroots level, with voting scheduled until evening and counting slated for April 28.
