A mass tree-plantation campaign, named “Gandhinagar Lok Sabha – Green Lok Sabha,” spearheaded by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aims to plant over 1.1 crore trees in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency during 2026-27. The initiative covers all seven Assembly segments, urging citizens to plant a sapling for each family member and ensure its care. Officials have set a target of planting 1,01,10,026 trees across the constituency, with the Sanand Assembly segment allocated the highest share of 52.64 lakh trees.
Large-scale afforestation efforts are planned in Kalol and Gandhinagar (North) to enhance the green cover of the parliamentary constituency, following a notable 11.25% increase in greenery between 2019 and 2025. Urban greening projects have also been implemented in Ahmedabad and its environs, including the establishment of 94 high-tech “Oxygen Parks” using innovative plantation techniques. These parks, situated in various Ahmedabad wards, aim to create urban forests swiftly.
Scheduled for July 12, a significant tree-plantation drive is anticipated to engage the public at designated sites within the constituency. An online registration portal has been introduced to facilitate participation, with organizers encouraging residents to plant and maintain at least one sapling per household member. The campaign’s objective is to expand the green cover of Shah’s parliamentary constituency through communal involvement and sustained tree care.
