Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah highlighted Ahmedabad’s tree plantation campaign, aiming to reduce the city’s temperature by five percent. Shah emphasized the need for public involvement to address climate change and urban warming. The initiative, including the planting of 1.25 crore trees in Gandhinagar and five million in Ahmedabad, seeks long-term environmental benefits.
Shah stressed the importance of citizen participation in greening Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad for effective results. The campaign, aligned with PM Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ drive, aims to balance development with environmental protection. Shah underscored the role of trees in absorbing carbon dioxide to sustain the planet for future generations.
The minister highlighted the environmental impact of vehicle and industrial emissions, leading to higher temperatures and ozone layer depletion. He emphasized the significance of planting native trees capable of lasting over a century. The initiative also includes the establishment of 61 new Oxygen Parks in Gandhinagar to support biodiversity and provide habitats for birds.
The tree plantation campaign in Ahmedabad complements broader environmental efforts, including urban forest expansion and civic infrastructure projects. Shah praised the civic body’s digital directory to monitor park details, enhancing citizen engagement and awareness.
