Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead a conference of Superintendents of Police (SPs) from border districts in New Delhi on Thursday. The meeting will address crucial topics such as infiltration, illegal immigration, demographic changes, border security, drone threats, and narcotics trafficking. Superintendents of Police from various border states and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and the northeastern states, will participate to discuss ground-level assessments and security concerns.
The conference gains significance amidst the government’s efforts to combat illegal immigration and maintain the demographic balance in border districts. A high-level committee was formed recently to study demographic changes across the country, focusing on issues like illegal immigration, unusual settlement patterns, and population shifts. Amit Shah has been actively monitoring border regions, directing officials to address illegal immigration and demolish unauthorized structures used for illegal activities.
In addition to security matters, the conference will also emphasize the development and welfare of residents in border areas, recognizing their strategic role in defending against hostile activities. Discussions are expected to cover the increasing threat posed by drones, especially in transporting arms and narcotics across the border. The progress of fencing work along the India-Bangladesh border, particularly in vulnerable areas of West Bengal, will be a key agenda item during the meeting.
