Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate a new automated milk processing and packaging plant at Dashela village in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district. The plant, constructed by Gandhinagar District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited at a cost of Rs 128 crore, has a daily milk processing capacity of 2.5 lakh litres, expandable to 5 lakh litres as needed. This inauguration marks a significant development in the cooperative dairy sector in the region.
Madhur Dairy’s overall milk processing and packaging capacity will double to 5 lakh litres per day following the plant’s inauguration, positioning it as the largest cooperative milk union in Gandhinagar district. The event will be graced by State Legislative Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, state BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma, and state Agriculture Minister Jitu Vaghani.
The new plant is expected to bring numerous benefits to milk producers associated with Madhur Dairy and consumers in the district. It will allow the cooperative to process all milk procurement from local dairy farmers, ensuring they receive competitive prices for their milk. Additionally, the expanded infrastructure will enhance manufacturing capacity for new dairy products under the Amul brand by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF).
Officials emphasized the commitment to the welfare of milk producer members and cooperative sector development. Madhur Dairy, affiliated with GCMMF, has been pivotal in supporting the economic progress of dairy farmers in Gandhinagar district while providing affordable milk products to consumers. The cooperative, established in 1971 with only four milk societies, has witnessed substantial growth over the years, with current daily milk procurement averaging 2.76 lakh litres.
Madhur Dairy’s financial growth has been remarkable, with an initial turnover of Rs 7 lakh increasing to nearly Rs 628 crore due to continuous expansion, quality services, and consumer trust. The cooperative’s infrastructure projects and expansion initiatives align with a long-term development strategy aimed at fostering economic prosperity among milk producers in Gandhinagar district.
