Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is set to inaugurate a new automated milk processing and packaging plant at Dashela village in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district on May 17. The plant, constructed by Gandhinagar District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited at a cost of Rs 128 crore, will have a daily milk processing capacity of 2.5 lakh litres, expandable to 5 lakh litres as needed. This initiative marks a significant advancement in the cooperative dairy sector of the region.
The inauguration of this facility will elevate Madhur Dairy’s total milk processing and packaging capacity to 5 lakh litres per day, positioning it as the largest cooperative milk union in Gandhinagar district. The event will be graced by several dignitaries including State Legislative Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and other key officials. The new plant is anticipated to bring various benefits to milk producers associated with Madhur Dairy and consumers throughout the district.
The expanded infrastructure will empower the cooperative to efficiently process all milk procurement from local dairy farmers, ensuring that producers receive fair prices for their milk. Consumers will enjoy enhanced access to quality milk and a wider array of dairy products under the Madhur and Amul brands. Furthermore, the expansion will boost the manufacturing capacity for new dairy products under the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), known for its Amul brand.
Officials emphasized the commitment to the welfare of milk producer members and the cooperative sector’s development. Madhur Dairy, in collaboration with GCMMF, has been actively supporting the economic progress of dairy farmers in Gandhinagar district while providing milk products at affordable prices. Established in 1971 with just four milk societies, the cooperative has witnessed steady growth in milk procurement over the years, currently averaging 2.76 lakh litres per day.
Madhur Dairy’s financial growth has been remarkable, with its annual turnover increasing significantly from around Rs 7 lakh to nearly Rs 628 crore. The cooperative’s ongoing infrastructure projects and expansion initiatives are part of a strategic long-term plan aimed at fostering economic prosperity for milk producers in Gandhinagar district.
