Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Tripura on June 4-5 to evaluate the readiness of the Border Security Force (BSF) and other agencies along the India-Bangladesh border. Shah will conduct a high-level meeting with BSF and security officials to discuss border-related issues and personally inspect selected border areas in West Tripura district.
During his visit, Shah will inaugurate infrastructure projects, participate in a tree plantation drive, and attend a Sainik Sammelan at the Bangladesh frontier. Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone and participate in the Bhumi Pujan ceremony for a hotel project in collaboration with the Tripura government and a private organization.
Tripura, with an 856-km-long border with Bangladesh, faces challenges like illegal migration, smuggling, and trans-border crimes. Most of the border has been fenced to combat these issues, with heightened vigilance since unrest in Bangladesh in 2024. Shah has announced plans for a robust border security grid under the ‘Smart Border Project’ to enhance surveillance with drones, radars, and advanced technologies.
The Home Minister emphasized the need for close coordination between BSF, state governments, and local authorities in Tripura, Assam, and West Bengal to strengthen border management and prevent illegal infiltration. He directed BSF formations to work closely with district administrations, police, and other officials to enhance border security measures.
