Declaring the fight against Naxalism as crucial for tribal villages’ safety, Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the need for Maoists to lay down arms and embrace development. Speaking at the Bastar Pandum festival in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Shah encouraged armed individuals to surrender, promising dignified rehabilitation under the state’s incentives. However, he warned of stern action against those engaging in violence, emphasizing the destructive nature of Maoism.
Highlighting the positive changes in Bastar, Shah mentioned the reopening of schools after years of closure and pledged to make the region the most developed division in Chhattisgarh within five years. He assured that every village in Bastar would have essential amenities like electricity, mobile connectivity, hospitals, and colleges by December 27. The government plans to support tribal farmers, provide basic necessities, and introduce new opportunities like adventure tourism once Naxalism is eradicated.
Aiming for comprehensive development, Shah announced various projects including an industrial zone, an irrigation and power project, a rail line, river interlinking initiatives, and vocational training programs. He noted the shift in Bastar’s atmosphere from a curfew-like state to a vibrant cultural hub, praising the region’s rich tribal heritage and diverse communities with unique traditions. Shah also commended the Bastar Pandum festival for promoting tribal culture nationally and honored security forces for their sacrifices in combating Naxalism.
