The arrested suspects, Akash Sandhu (30), Sunil Saroj (40), Harwinder Singh (32), and Vansh Singh (40), have prior records under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. The recovered firearms include a 9MM Glock and a .30 bore.
Preliminary investigations unveiled that the accused maintained connections with overseas smugglers, receiving illicit substances and weapons for distribution among criminal networks in the area. Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Bhullar disclosed that the police, acting on a tip-off, initially detained Sandhu, seizing 192 grams of heroin, with an additional 776 grams recovered based on his revelations.
Further inquiries led to the arrest of Saroj, who was found in possession of 4.589 kg of heroin. Subsequently, Harwinder Singh and Vansh Singh were apprehended, with two sophisticated pistols confiscated from them. Harwinder, a suspect in a significant heroin case, and Vansh, both residents of a village near the International Border, played pivotal roles in facilitating cross-border smuggling operations.
Two FIRs were filed under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the Arms Act, outlining the legal actions against the accused.
