Amritsar Commissionerate Police made a significant breakthrough by dismantling a cross-border drug smuggling syndicate linked to handlers in Pakistan. Seven individuals were apprehended, and authorities seized 4.075 kg of heroin, one kg of methamphetamine (ICE), and a 9mm Glock pistol. The Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav, disclosed these findings on Tuesday.
The arrested individuals include Judgebir Singh, Jaspal Singh, Anmolpreet Singh, Harpinder Singh, Tarunpreet Singh, Dawinder Singh, and Mandeep Singh. Investigations suggest that the illicit substances were trafficked from Pakistan and distributed within the state through local networks facilitated by social media. Further probes are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the operation.
Commissioner of Police (Amritsar) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared that the police’s actions were based on specific intelligence inputs. The initial arrest of Judgebir Singh with 225 grams of heroin led to the apprehension of Jaspal Singh, who was in possession of 1.6 kg of heroin. Subsequent arrests of Anmolpreet Singh, Harpinder Singh, and Tarunpreet Singh yielded an additional 2.2 kg of heroin, revealing their roles as couriers and distributors under the direction of Pakistani handlers.
During the operation, Dawinder and Mandeep Singh were caught with a 9mm Glock pistol and a motorcycle. Further interrogation led to the discovery of one kg of ICE in their possession. Background checks unveiled the criminal records of the accused, with Judgebir involved in an attempted murder case, Jaspal Singh facing charges under the Arms Act, and Dawinder Singh having prior NDPS Act violations. Dawinder had returned from Dubai after a decade, where he had established connections with international drug traffickers.
