In a successful initiative by the Amritsar Rural Police, approximately 300 lost and stolen mobile phones valued at nearly Rs 1.5 crore were handed back to their rightful owners. This distribution event was overseen by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Suhel Mir Khan. It marked the second such ceremony conducted by the police in Amritsar.

SSP Suhel Mir Khan mentioned that a similar campaign had been held in January, resulting in the return of about 300 mobile phones to their owners. The total market worth of the phones returned during this recent event was estimated at Rs 1.5 crore. The recovered phones varied in value from Rs 15,000 to Rs 2 lakh.

According to SSP Khan, the police’s cyber cell, CR help desk, and teams from different police stations collaborated to track and retrieve the devices using technical means. Recovering such phones can be challenging, as they may end up in other districts or states. However, the concerted efforts and dedication of the police teams led to their successful recovery.

SSP Khan emphasized that many individuals believe lost phones cannot be found, but this event demonstrated otherwise. He highlighted the importance of promptly reporting missing phones to the police for successful tracing and recovery. Mobile phones often store crucial personal and professional data, and people’s businesses are frequently linked to them.

Appealing to the public, SSP Khan urged individuals to notify the police immediately if their mobile phones are lost or stolen. He assured that it is the police’s responsibility to trace missing phones. Under community policing initiatives, the Punjab Police is committed to enhancing public services and will continue such campaigns in the future.
