Anbumani Ramadoss criticized the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, led by M.K. Stalin, for failing to address the increase in illegal liquor sales. He highlighted a recent incident in Podur village where women took action against four illicit liquor outlets. Ramadoss emphasized that while vigilantism is not the solution, the government’s inaction has fueled the proliferation of illegal liquor shops.
The PMK leader accused the DMK government of neglecting the issue, leading villagers to feel compelled to intervene due to the unchecked growth of illegal liquor outlets. Despite longstanding protests for closure, the authorities did not take effective measures against the four outlets in Podur. Ramadoss also mentioned the prevalence of similar illegal liquor shops operating throughout Dharmapuri district.
Ramadoss criticized the state government for not addressing the problem despite protests and legislative efforts. He highlighted the disparity between legal and illegal liquor outlets, with over 20,000 illicit shops alongside 4,787 legal TASMAC shops. The PMK leader estimated significant revenue losses and corruption due to evasion of excise duties and taxes, emphasizing the need for government action to curb illegal liquor operations.
