Kurnool, Aug 3 (IANS) The Special CBI Court in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool on Monday sentenced a former official of Kadapa Airport to Rigorous Imprisonment for three years with a fine of Rs 50,000 in a nine-year-old bribery case.
The Special Court sentenced Mukundagiri Rangachari Srinivasan, the then Assistant General Manager (Air Traffic Management) and Officiating Airport Director, Kadapa Airport, for demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a contractor, said a CBI statement.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case on July 24, 2015 against the accused.
It was alleged that the accused abused his official position as a public servant and demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant for processing the pending bills at an early date and for not initiating the process of blacklisting the complainant’s firm.
The CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting Rs 25,000, as the first instalment of the demanded bribe.
After completion of investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet on February 29, 2016 against the accused, said the statement.
In a separate case from West Bengal, the Birbhum District Police on Monday morning arrested Sitesh Pramanik, the manager of an absconding stone-quarry owner from the district, Tulu Mondal a.k.a. Mohammad Nazibuddin.
Last week, the Birbhum District Police arrested Minar Mondal, a close relative of Tulu Mondal, after Rs 28 crore in unaccounted cash and 15 kilograms of gold with an estimated market value of around Rs 22 crore were recovered from his residence at Birbhum.
In the face of interrogation, Minar confessed that the cash and gold were owned by Tulu Mondal and he was just responsible for their safekeeping at his residence.
Thereafter, the cops seized Tulu Mondal’s residence at Suri in Birbhum district.
Now, on Monday morning, the cops arrested his manager Sitesh to interrogate him about the source of money and gold recovered from Minar’s residence last week.
