Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu praised Justice Lisa Gill for becoming the first woman Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of this milestone in advancing women’s representation in the judiciary. Justice Gill, with a distinguished legal career spanning civil, criminal, and constitutional laws, received accolades for her dedication to justice.
The Union Ministry of Law and Justice officially appointed Justice Lisa Gill as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The announcement, made by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, cited her extensive 36-year legal experience, including over a decade as a judge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. She is set to assume her new role on April 25 following the retirement of Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur on April 24.
Justice Lisa Gill’s appointment as Chief Justice was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. The decision to transfer her from the Punjab and Haryana High Court to the Andhra Pradesh High Court was part of a new policy for early transfers of potential Chief Justices. This policy aims to ensure a smooth transition by allowing incoming Chief Justices to familiarize themselves with the High Court’s operations before taking charge.
