Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu visited the Polavaram project in Eluru district to oversee the ongoing works. He conducted an aerial inspection of the project site, including the spillway and the construction progress between the coffer dams. The Chief Minister also inspected the Earth-cum-Rock-Fill Dam and the power generation unit works.
Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu and senior officials accompanied Naidu during his visit. He inquired about the progress of various works, including the ECRF Gap 1 and power generation station construction. Officials reported that 89% of the civil works for the Polavaram Project have been completed.
During a review meeting, Naidu emphasized the timely completion of Gap 1 and Gap 2 of the Earth-cum-Rock Fill Dam. He urged officials to expedite works related to access roads, embankments, and the Gandi Pochamma Temple development. Naidu also stressed the importance of ensuring smooth rehabilitation and compensation for displaced persons.
The Chief Minister proposed the construction of an iconic bridge at the Polavaram Project site and highlighted the necessity of providing essential infrastructure facilities. He has visited the project site 37 times since 2014 and conducted 136 reviews to monitor progress. Naidu also interacted with farmers in Dr B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, where he disclosed significant investments in the irrigation sector by the coalition government.
