Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to create an economic model for boosting income through seaweed cultivation. This initiative aims to benefit women’s self-help groups and fishermen in coastal areas. Naidu highlighted the potential of seaweed farming to provide sustainable livelihoods along the state’s coastline.
He emphasized the importance of expanding income opportunities for self-help group women through seaweed cultivation. Naidu mentioned that Andhra Pradesh has significant potential for seaweed cultivation, which could strengthen the coastal region. The Chief Minister also discussed the promotion of seaweed farming among self-help group women and the development of commercial-scale production models.
In a virtual meeting with officials from various central institutions, Naidu focused on collaborating to enhance seaweed cultivation practices. He stressed the need to develop value-added seaweed products and engage national and international organizations for commercial production. Naidu sees seaweed as a valuable marine resource for creating wealth, especially in pharmaceuticals and nutraceutical products.
Naidu is set to chair the Collectors’ conference on May 7 and 8 to improve administrative efficiency and review development programs.
