Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu instructed officials to swiftly evaluate the extent of crop loss due to severe weather conditions in the state. During a video conference, officials informed the Chief Minister that 42 mandals across 12 districts had suffered crop damage, with maize, paddy, and black gram being the most affected crops.
The officials reported that maize over 4,840 hectares, paddy over 1,534 hectares, and black gram over 310 hectares were damaged, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 40 crore. Additionally, horticultural crops spanning 1,301 hectares in 48 mandals across nine districts, including banana, papaya, chili, and mango, were impacted, with a total loss of Rs 23 crore.
As per the India Meteorological Department, widespread rainfall is predicted in Andhra Pradesh until March 22, followed by isolated showers. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema. The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority has advised farmers to take necessary precautions.
Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu also reviewed the state’s LPG supply chain, emphasizing the need for a contingency plan in case of disruptions due to global conflicts. He stressed the uninterrupted supply of LPG gas cylinders, particularly in rural areas, educational institutions, and public facilities. Naidu suggested exploring alternative options like induction stoves and PNG, while ensuring no shortages of essential commodities through consultations with the Central government.
