Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy paid tribute to British irrigation engineer Sir Arthur Cotton on his birth anniversary. Cotton is remembered for transforming the Godavari districts into fertile farmlands, benefiting numerous farmers. Naidu praised Cotton’s vision that brought prosperity to the region, emphasizing the ongoing inspiration drawn from his irrigation projects.

Former Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy also acknowledged Sir Arthur Cotton’s contributions to agriculture and irrigation. He credited Cotton for the flourishing crops in the Godavari districts, highlighting his pivotal role in building the Dowleswaram Project. Minister for Water Resources Nimmala Ramanaidu commended Cotton’s legacy, stating that current irrigation projects in the state align with Cotton’s vision and principles.

Ramanaidu honored Sir Arthur Cotton by garlanding his portrait in Vijayawada, emphasizing Cotton’s foresight in constructing key barrages and canal networks. The minister highlighted the progress in reviving the Polavaram project under Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership, reflecting Cotton’s spirit. Inspired by Cotton’s work, a significant allocation has been made for enhancing the Dowleswaram Barrage, with plans for further rejuvenation projects in the region.
