The Andhra Pradesh government has issued an alert following the Ebola virus outbreak in various African nations. Health authorities in the state are screening passengers arriving from Ebola-affected countries like Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. State Minister for Medical and Health, Satyakumar Yadav, highlighted the need for precautionary measures in response to the escalating Ebola crisis in these regions.
The government is closely following World Health Organisation warnings and guidelines to combat the spread of Ebola. Measures include screening and testing at international airports in Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, and Vijayawada for travellers from affected nations. Prompt quarantine and medical examinations are planned for symptomatic individuals and their close contacts.
In preparation for a potential Ebola emergency, the state is establishing isolation wards with 15 beds in teaching hospitals near international airports. Adequate stocks of PPE kits and diagnostic testing kits are available for immediate use. Minister Satyakumar urged the public to avoid travel to Ebola-affected countries unless necessary and advised recent arrivals to report any symptoms promptly for preventive measures.
