Animesh Kujur and Mohammed Afsal displayed outstanding performances at the Saudi Athletics Grand Prix 2026 in Riyadh. Afsal secured victory in the men’s 800m race with a time of 1:48.24, surpassing competitors from South Africa and third-placed Werner Gouws.
Afsal, the Indian national record holder, continued his success after winning silver at the 2023 Asian Games. Kujur, known as India’s fastest sprinter, claimed the men’s 200m title in 20.77 seconds, defeating athletes from Great Britain. He also narrowly missed the top spot in the men’s 100m event.
The Saudi Athletics Grand Prix, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour, attracted participants from various countries. Kujur, who holds national records in both sprint events, showcased his talent after recent victories in New Delhi and previous record-breaking performances in Greece and at the Asian Athletics Championships.
M Krishik secured a podium finish for India in the men’s 110m hurdles with a time of 13.90 seconds. Additionally, the Indian men’s 4x100m relay team triumphed with a first-place finish, outperforming Saudi Arabia in a successful outing.
