The annual Flower Festival in Ooty, a popular summer event in Tamil Nadu, has commenced with stunning floral exhibits and themed decorations. Held at the Government Botanical Garden in the Nilgiris district, the festival is a major draw for tourists from India and beyond. The picturesque Nilgiris district is experiencing a rise in tourist numbers attracted by its pleasant climate and scenic beauty.
To promote tourism during the summer season, the district is hosting select events due to the election schedule this year. Notable attractions include the ongoing Rose Show at the Government Rose Garden in Ooty, featuring intricate decorations made from around two lakh roses. The 128th Flower Show at the Government Botanical Garden, inaugurated by Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya, showcases new flowering plant varieties and seeds from different countries.
The exhibition, running until May 28, boasts over one million flower saplings planted in various garden sections and more than 50,000 flower pots with colorful blooms. In a nod to Tamil heritage, Chennai Central Railway Station’s entrance facade has been recreated using over one lakh carnations and other flowers. The event also features 26 floral installations depicting iconic landmarks and cultural symbols, along with decorative arrangements representing ancient Tamil landscapes using over seven lakh flowers.
