The traditional ‘Pratham Puja’ that marks the beginning of the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra took place inside the holy cave shrine. Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha participated in the religious event, expressing his blessings and prayers for peace, prosperity, health, and well-being for all.
As the Yatra is set to start on July 3rd, various stakeholders including the Administration, Shrine Board, Army, police, and volunteers are collaborating effectively. The focus is on ensuring a safe, smooth, and memorable pilgrimage experience for all devotees, with upgraded infrastructure and enhanced facilities in place.
The Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 (SANJY-2026) will span from July 3 to August 28, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals. Situated at 3880 ft above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas, the cave shrine attracts devotees who undertake the journey through either the traditional Pahalgam base camp route or the shorter Baltal base camp route.
Devotees believe that the ice stalagmite structure inside the cave shrine, which changes with the moon phases, represents the mystical powers of Lord Shiva. Notably, due to the area beyond the base camps being designated as a ‘no-fly zone’, helicopters will not be available for devotees during this year’s Yatra.
