Another death related to dengue was confirmed in Bangladesh on Monday, bringing the total number of dengue-related deaths to six this year. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed that within the last 24 hours, 110 new patients were hospitalized, contributing to a total of 3,307 dengue cases nationwide. Among these cases, 62.6% are male and 37.4% are female.
The total number of recoveries and hospital discharges in 2026 has now reached 3,138, with 83 patients being discharged within the last day. The DGHS reported that out of the newly admitted patients, 35 were in Barishal Division, 12 in Chattogram Division, 15 in Dhaka Division, and others distributed across various regions.
In 2025, Bangladesh recorded a total of 1,02,861 dengue cases and 413 dengue-related deaths. The previous year, in 2024, the country reported 1,01,214 dengue infections and 575 deaths due to the mosquito-borne disease. Dengue, caused by the dengue virus (DENV) transmitted through infected mosquitoes, is prevalent in tropical and sub-tropical climates worldwide, particularly in urban areas. Prevention and control efforts focus on vector control, as there is no specific treatment for dengue. Early detection and access to proper medical care help reduce fatality rates of severe dengue.
Bangladesh is also grappling with a measles outbreak, with the death toll reaching 585 by May 31, including 495 confirmed and 90 suspected measles-related deaths.
