American artificial intelligence company Anthropic has announced the opening of its Bengaluru office, marking its second office in Asia after Tokyo. The company plans to recruit local talent for various roles in India. Anthropic stated that India is the second-largest market for Claude.ai, with almost half of its usage in the country involving computer and mathematical tasks like developing applications and shipping production software.
“We’re forming partnerships in enterprise, education, and agriculture to strengthen our commitment to India across different sectors,” the company mentioned. Irina Ghose, the Managing Director of India at Anthropic, expressed that India offers significant opportunities to expand responsible AI benefits to a broader audience and businesses. Ghose highlighted India’s exceptional technical workforce, extensive digital infrastructure, and a history of leveraging technology for societal betterment.
Anthropic emphasized its collaborations, including a partnership with Pratham, an educational nonprofit organization. The Anytime Testing Machine by Pratham, powered by Claude, is undergoing a pilot phase involving 1,500 students in 20 schools, with plans to scale up to 100 schools by the end of 2026. This initiative aims to provide students with flexible learning and certification pathways through exam practice.
Madhav Chavan, Co-Founder and CEO of Pratham, noted, “AI tools like Claude offer new avenues to reach students lacking access to advanced educational resources.” Anthropic reported a doubling of its India run-rate revenue since October 2025. Additionally, the company collaborates with the Central Square Foundation to enhance the effectiveness of EdTech and AI in educating children from marginalized communities.
Anthropic also mentioned its support for Adalat AI, set to launch a national WhatsApp helpline for court case updates. The AI service will offer instant case notifications, translation services, document summarization, and interactive legal document querying in various Indian languages. Furthermore, Anthropic introduced the Model Context Protocol (MCP) as a universal open-source standard for integrating AI applications with external systems, which it recently contributed to the Linux Foundation.
