In a significant breakthrough, the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) of the South District Police in Delhi apprehended a mobile phone snatcher. The squad recovered six stolen mobile phones from the culprit along with the motorcycle used in the crimes.
The arrest followed a complaint by Yuvika Wadhwa regarding the snatching of her mobile phone near G-Block, C.R. Park. An investigation was initiated promptly after the complaint was lodged.
To crack the case, a dedicated police team led by Inspector Umesh Yadav, In-Charge of AATS, South District, was formed. The team, under the supervision of Additional DCP (Operations) Arvind Kumar, analyzed CCTV footage and identified the suspect as Aakash.
During the investigation, the police team traced the accused to the Sangam Vihar area with the help of technical surveillance and local intelligence. Acting on specific information, the police laid a trap near Nala Road in Khirki Village and successfully apprehended the accused while he was attempting to dispose of stolen property.
The accused, identified as Aakash, confessed to targeting pedestrians in crowded areas while riding a motorcycle with a defective number plate. He sold the stolen mobile phones to support his drug addiction.
Police records indicate that the arrest of Aakash helped solve multiple theft and snatching cases across Delhi, including those registered at various police stations.
