The Assam Police in Katigorah, Cachar district, seized 126 grams of heroin and apprehended two alleged drug peddlers during a special operation on National Highway-6. The arrests were made based on specific intelligence inputs received by the police, leading to the recovery of heroin hidden in soap cases, mobile phones, and a car allegedly used for trafficking.
The arrested individuals, Baharul Islam from Tezpur and Aminul Hussain from Sonitpur district, are currently under interrogation to determine the origin and destination of the seized narcotics. The operation, spearheaded by Officer-in-Charge Naba Kumar Saikia, has resulted in a case being filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
This recent seizure is part of the ongoing efforts by Assam Police to combat the illegal drug trade, with a focus on disrupting drug supply networks in the region. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has emphasized a zero-tolerance stance on narcotics, prompting regular raids and crackdowns by law enforcement agencies to bring drug traffickers to justice.
