Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, revealed that individuals from specific areas in Kolkata, including Rajabazar, Kidderpore, Park Circus, Garden Reach, and Ekbalpur, instigated the violence at a rally organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and various Left parties’ youth and students’ wings protesting the NEET exam paper leak. Despite instructions against using force, chaos ensued as non-students from these areas attacked police and journalists at Dorina crossing.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the perpetrators aimed to incite tension and violence to gain attention, prompting police action. Several journalists were injured in the attacks, leading to the identification of 70 individuals involved in the rowdy behavior through CCTV footage. The state plans to prosecute them under the West Bengal Public Safety & Control of Anti-Social Activities Act, 2026, which aims to curb such activities and corruption.
One more FIR has been filed in connection with the rally, bringing the total to seven, as investigations continue into the violent incidents orchestrated by the identified anti-social elements. Adhikari emphasized the need to address such disruptive behavior and uphold public safety through stringent measures.
