Apple has sold approximately 6.5 million units of the iPhone 16 in India during the first 11 months of 2025, establishing it as the best-selling smartphone in the country. This surpasses the performance of Android competitors during the same period, with the iPhone 15 also securing a spot in the top five best-selling devices. The surge in Apple’s sales is attributed to a shift in consumer preferences towards higher-end devices in a market traditionally dominated by entry-level and mid-range smartphones.
Apple’s success in India is further bolstered by its strategic efforts to enhance local manufacturing and reduce dependence on China. The company recently expanded its retail presence in India by opening three new Apple Stores in Bengaluru, Pune, and Noida, bringing the total number of stores in the country to five. To make premium smartphones more accessible, Apple has introduced financing options like no-cost EMIs, cashbacks, and bank schemes, attracting a broader consumer base.
In a significant milestone, Apple recorded the highest value of exports from India in November, with iPhone shipments totaling $2 billion. The company’s filings revealed that Apple India achieved record domestic sales of $9 billion in FY25, with one out of every five iPhones produced globally in that fiscal year being manufactured or assembled in India. Manufacturing operations in India accounted for 12% of Apple’s global production value, with the company commencing local assembly of high-end Pro and Pro Max iPhone models for the first time.
Apple’s financial reports indicated that the Americas contributed $178.4 billion in revenue in FY25, representing nearly 43% of the company’s global revenue, with an increasing proportion of iPhones being shipped from India.
