An Army Jawan and his two nephews have been taken into custody for the alleged killing of a YouTuber in Bhubaneswar’s Mancheswar Police station vicinity over a minor dispute. The suspects, identified as Samarendra Behera (20) aka Muna, Sangram Behera (24) aka Kuna, and Sangram Kesari Behera (37) aka Satura, are from Kanpur in Cuttack district but were residing in GGP Colony, Bhubaneswar.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Zone V, Biswaranjan Senapati, the victim, YouTuber Rahul Ranjan Maharana, was fatally attacked on a high school field in GGP Colony around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. The police, lacking CCTV footage, relied on human intelligence to track down the suspects.
The authorities swiftly responded to the incident, reaching the crime scene promptly and initiating an investigation. Through human intelligence gathered at the scene, the police were able to obtain the registration numbers of the motorcycles used by the accused individuals. Subsequently, the law enforcement officers located and apprehended the jawan and his accomplices at their rented residence in GGP Colony within a few hours.
ACP Senapati disclosed that two groups, comprising the victim and his associates, as well as the accused parties, were present at the field that evening. An altercation ensued when Shiba, a friend of Rahul, inadvertently approached the accused while on a call, leading to a confrontation. The situation escalated into violence, resulting in the fatal stabbing of Rahul as he attempted to rescue Shiba.
The ACP clarified that the incident arose from a sudden provocation and dismissed any prior animosity between the perpetrators and the deceased. The police also recovered two motorcycles, three mobile phones, and a knife as part of the investigation.
