Four soldiers sustained injuries when an Army truck overturned on National Highway-58 near the Dangawas-Merta border in Nagaur district, Rajasthan. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. as the vehicle was en route from Bikaner to Jabalpur via Nagaur and Ajmer. Two of the soldiers are in critical condition and have been transferred to Ajmer for advanced medical care.
The truck lost control and flipped over after the driver abruptly applied brakes, as reported by the police. All four injured soldiers received immediate medical attention at the Merta sub-district hospital. Among them, Root Singh and Pushpendra Singh were referred to Ajmer due to the severity of their injuries, while the other two suffered minor injuries.
Upon receiving information about the accident, the Merta Police Inspector Dharmesh Dayama dispatched a team for rescue and investigation operations. An ambulance, driven by Harendra Tetarwal, arrived at the scene and, with the assistance of local residents, the injured soldiers were rescued from the overturned vehicle and transported to the hospital.
The driver of the truck explained to the police that the accident occurred due to the loss of control resulting from sudden braking. Authorities mentioned that a thorough investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
Road accidents, a persistent issue, lead to numerous fatalities and injuries annually. Factors such as over-speeding, reckless overtaking, drunk driving, and fatigue are identified as primary causes, according to traffic police data. Moreover, poorly lit roads, inadequate signage, and unregulated intersections pose additional risks, particularly during nighttime.
Delays in emergency responses and the absence of trauma care facilities in remote regions often exacerbate the situation. Despite increased checks, speed camera installations, and awareness campaigns by authorities, compliance with road safety measures remains inconsistent. Experts emphasize the importance of stringent enforcement, improved road infrastructure, and responsible driving practices to mitigate fatalities.
