The Northern Command based in Udhampur stated its commitment to working closely with the people of Jammu and Kashmir to eliminate the drug problem in the region. Through the ‘Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan’ initiative, the Army has engaged in various activities including awareness programs, community interactions, and outreach efforts to address the issue.
Significant progress has been made during the 100-day campaign, with over 16.37 lakh awareness events conducted across schools, villages, and Panchayats, involving a participation of more than one crore individuals. Additionally, the formation of 7,000 women’s committees has facilitated grassroots community involvement and local vigilance.
The campaign also saw the appointment of twenty senior officers as District Mentors to supervise awareness initiatives. Enforcement actions have led to the registration of over 850 FIRs under the NDPS Act, resulting in the apprehension of more than 900 drug traffickers and smugglers. Furthermore, efforts to target illicit drug networks have led to the seizure of properties valued at over Rs 48 crore.
Rehabilitation and youth reclamation efforts have shifted focus towards counseling and recovery, aiding in the successful rehabilitation of numerous individuals struggling with addiction. Special attention has been given to identifying and intervening in high-risk “drug hotspots” across the region. The launch of the Nasha Mukt J&K Portal aims to enhance public access to de-addiction programs, counseling services, and peer support systems.
The 100-day Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyaan, inaugurated by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha on April 6, has implemented stringent measures including the cancellation of passports, driving licenses, Aadhaar cards, and vehicle registration certificates of those involved in drug-related activities.
