In West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, a police officer accused in the mysterious death of a woman Home Guard has been arrested. Sub-Inspector Sayan Bhattacharya from Canning Police Station was apprehended in North 24 Parganas district and presented before the Alipore court. The police have requested custody of the accused for seven days to aid in their investigation.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to look into the death of the woman Home Guard in Canning. The accused officer has been suspended, and a murder case has been filed against him. The deceased woman’s family alleges that she was involved in an extramarital affair with the officer, leading to her murder.

The body of the 22-year-old woman, known as Reshmi, was discovered hanging in the police quarters. Reshmi, who resided in Uttar Moukhali area, was the eldest daughter of a family that had faced tragedy before, with her father being murdered two years ago during Panchayat elections. The police are investigating the case further to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death.
