Police have apprehended an individual linked to the discovery of a young girl’s body in a pond in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district. The girl was reportedly raped and killed. The arrested person was taken into custody on Sunday and subsequently arrested. Local residents claimed to have seen the girl with the suspect before she went missing on Saturday.
A murder case has been registered concerning the incident, with the victim’s family alleging rape. However, no formal rape charges have been filed yet. The decision to include rape allegations will be made after the autopsy report is obtained. Additionally, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising six members, led by the Additional Superintendent of Police, has been formed to probe the matter.
Trinamool Congress MLA Kunal Ghosh mentioned on social media that Mamata Banerjee, a party leader, expressed a desire to visit Baruipur. Allegations were made that a substantial police presence was stationed outside her residence to potentially arrest her. The MLA asserted that this deployment would persist into the following day.
The victim’s family asserted that the 12-year-old had been raped and murdered. Subsequently, a youth suspected of involvement in the crime was reportedly lynched. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari reached out to the girl’s father, offering support and ensuring appropriate action would be taken. He invited the father to Bhabani Bhawan on Tuesday.
