Within a day of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari’s warning, three organizers of Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) chief Humayun Kabir’s meeting were arrested for a speech that stirred controversy by the Naoda MLA. The arrested individuals are Golam Mustafa, Mohammad Aminuk Haque, and Anisur Rahman. The Murshidabad district police conducted two separate operations on Monday night to apprehend them.
Recently, AJUP MLA Humayun Kabir conducted meetings in Rejinagar and Shaktipur areas in Murshidabad district, where allegations arose regarding provocative comments made during a speech. Two FIRs were filed at Rejinagar and Shaktipur police stations in Murshidabad in response to the situation. Humayun’s remarks also caused a stir during the Assembly session.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, in his address to the House on Monday, cautioned about potential police action following the MLA’s comments. He specifically targeted Humayun, emphasizing the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and addressing such behavior. Subsequently, within 24 hours of the Chief Minister’s warning, three arrests were made. Golam and Aminul were apprehended based on a case filed by Rejinagar police station, with Golam serving as the president of AJUP’s Kashipur II zone. Anisur was nabbed by the Shaktipur police station and is the convener of AJUP’s Beldanga II block.
According to the police, Aminul resides in Loknathpur village of Rejinagar, while Golam, the primary event organizer, hails from Kashipur. Golam had initially sought police permission to host a party meeting, where it is alleged that the MLA delivered provocative statements. Following the Chief Minister’s remarks, Humayun clarified that his comments were not directed at the Chief Minister but rather at new BJP members causing unrest in the area. He expressed readiness to face any consequences for his actions, highlighting his past struggles and victories against such individuals.
