In a significant development regarding the robbery at a jewellery shop in Ramgarh, Jharkhand, the police have apprehended the wife and son-in-law of the alleged mastermind. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the daylight robbery on April 21 at Shiv Shankar Jewellers made the arrests.

The individuals arrested are Nazma Khatun, 40, who is the wife of the main suspect, Subhani Ansari alias Lalka, and her son-in-law, Shehnawaz Hussain, 24. Acting on a specific tip-off received on May 10, the SIT intensified surveillance and interrogation of the relatives and close associates of the main accused.

Ramgarh Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat stated that during questioning, it was revealed that a portion of the stolen jewellery had been concealed underground at Nazma Khatun’s residence. Following this information, the police conducted an excavation and discovered a significant amount of gold and silver ornaments.

The recovered items included a gold-like necklace, two earrings, and various silver ornaments like bangles, bracelets, and rings. The gold ornaments weighed around 49 grams, while the silver jewellery weighed approximately 1,350 grams. A total of 134 pieces of jewellery were seized during the recovery operation.

Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining stolen property and apprehend other absconding suspects associated with the case. Raids are being conducted at multiple locations to arrest the remaining culprits and recover the rest of the looted valuables. Police suspect that additional members of the gang and their associates may have assisted in hiding the stolen jewellery post-robbery.
