Artificial Intelligence is set to revolutionize job landscapes, offering significant growth and employment prospects, according to Hari Shetty, Chief Strategist and Technology Officer at Wipro Limited. Shetty highlighted AI as a pivotal technological advancement akin to historical milestones like electricity, the steam engine, and the internet.
Describing AI as a substantial technology evolution, Shetty emphasized its potential to reshape global industries and economies. He referenced a World Economic Forum report projecting the creation of 170 million jobs worldwide by AI, alongside the disruption of around 92 million roles.
While acknowledging the impending job shifts, Shetty stressed the positive outlook, noting that over 70 million new jobs are expected to emerge despite disruptions. He emphasized the need for companies and individuals to adapt to evolving skill demands, underlining Wipro’s proactive approach in preparing its workforce for the AI transition.
Wipro has implemented extensive AI literacy programs and upskilled its employees in AI-related competencies. Additionally, the company collaborates with seven Indian states to establish AI and data sciences Centers of Excellence, benefiting approximately 60,000 students. Shetty encouraged viewing the AI-driven future as a realm of opportunities rather than threats.
