Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu informed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah contacted him to discuss the flood crisis in the state. Khandu expressed his appreciation for Shah’s concern and briefed him on the relief operations in progress. The floods, caused by heavy rains, have impacted thousands across 12 districts in the state.
The death toll in Keyi Panyor district has reached three due to flash floods since June 23. The latest victim, Saurabh Kumar Kharwar, was found in Papum Pare district. Rescue efforts are ongoing in the affected areas where infrastructure and homes have been damaged. The exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed.
Chief Minister Khandu virtually assessed the flood situation with top officials. They discussed ongoing rescue efforts, road repairs, and medical aid. Khandu emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting affected communities. The India Meteorological Department warned of continued heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh till July 1, urging caution.
The Border Roads Organisation swiftly restored the Kimin-Potin road post devastation caused by landslides and floods. The disruption had cut off key locations, affecting vehicular movement. The Indian Air Force also assisted in relief operations by airlifting supplies and NDRF personnel to the affected district. Several districts in Arunachal Pradesh have been severely impacted by the floods.
