Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has encouraged the state’s youth to lead the creation of a “Viksit Arunachal” by 2047. Speaking at the ‘YuvaSoch, Naya Arunachal’ event in Tawang, he emphasized the importance of active involvement in public policies and developmental initiatives for meaningful change. Khandu highlighted the historical significance of February 14 for Tawang, marking 75 years since Major Bob Khathing integrated the region with India by hoisting the national flag in 1951.

The Chief Minister praised Major Khathing’s diverse roles as a teacher, soldier, administrator, and diplomat during the peaceful integration of Tawang. He mentioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to honor unsung heroes, leading Arunachal Pradesh to document local historical figures. Khandu urged the youth to connect with their tribal roots, warning against losing identity by neglecting history and culture.

Khandu stressed the need for continuous learning post-education to understand government policies for effective societal service. He highlighted the ‘Seva Aapke Dwar’ initiative’s success in bridging the gap between administration and citizens, benefiting over 15 lakh people. The Chief Minister emphasized the principles of “Nation First, Party Second, Self Last” and “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,” focusing on uplifting the poorest through government schemes.

Reflecting on the Northeast’s progress since 2014, Khandu noted increased national attention, especially in Union Budget allocations and ministerial visits. He commended the recent budget’s provisions for youth, farmers, and Buddhist heritage sites in Arunachal Pradesh. Khandu highlighted the state’s hydropower potential, with projects like Lower Subansiri, Dibang, and Etalin contributing to revenue generation.

Discussing the mining sector, Khandu mentioned ongoing mineral exploration and coal block auctions to boost the state’s economy. He emphasized the importance of self-reliance for Arunachal Pradesh, aiming to maximize revenue from resources. The Chief Minister acknowledged women’s role in economic growth through Self Help Groups and the Vibrant Villages Programme’s impact on rural development.

Khandu welcomed the Women’s Reservation provision from 2029, urging women’s active participation in leadership roles. He advocated for preserving indigenous languages, traditions, and promoting local identity among the youth. The Chief Minister announced plans to enhance research and preservation of tribal heritage through institutional initiatives.
