Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, announced a National Town Hall meeting against ethanol-blended fuel (E20) to be held on August 1 at the Constitution Club in New Delhi.
Kejriwal urged people to join the ‘National Townhall Against E20’ to voice their concerns on the issue, highlighting the importance of unity in addressing the matter. The event, scheduled for August 1, 2026, will take place at 11:30 a.m. at the Constitution Club in Delhi.
The move follows the resignation of former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan amid protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over educational system irregularities, including NEET-UG paper leaks. The decision to introduce E20 as the standard fuel at petrol pumps nationwide has stirred a political debate, with opposition leaders referencing a 2021 NITI Aayog report.
The Union government recently clarified in Parliament that no decision has been made to increase ethanol blending with petrol beyond 20 percent. Any future decisions on higher ethanol blends will involve detailed scientific studies and consultations with relevant stakeholders. Additionally, E85 fuel has been introduced for Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFVs) without impacting the nationwide base ethanol blending level of petrol.
