Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, announced his intention to personally visit the Intelligence Bureau (IB) office in Gujarat. This decision comes after the party accused central agencies of targeting its workers in the state. The controversy arose when an AAP worker in Gujarat reported receiving repeated calls from a mobile number claiming to be from the IB.
Durgesh Pathak, AAP Gujarat co-incharge, raised concerns about the alleged verification calls made to party workers. He questioned the legitimacy of these calls and the requirement for citizens traveling between states for work to register with the agency. Pathak claimed that around 100 party workers had received similar calls from the IB and Crime Branch over the past few weeks.
Pathak further alleged that some workers who responded to the calls and visited the office were informally threatened. Kejriwal, reacting to the situation, personally contacted the number in question and engaged with the caller. He emphasized the seriousness of the matter and called for public clarification from the IB regarding the authenticity of the number and the legal basis for the verification process.
Kejriwal urged AAP workers to share details of any future calls from the IB on social media to enable public scrutiny. He also stated his intention to visit the IB office during his next trip to Gujarat to seek clarification directly. The Intelligence Bureau and Gujarat Police have not issued any official statements regarding these allegations.
