Asaduddin Owaisi is scheduled to campaign for AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal in Assam before the upcoming Assembly elections. Owaisi will be in Assam on April 2 and 3, where he plans to speak at eight public meetings in various constituencies.
The focus of the campaign will be on rallying support for Ajmal, who is running for the Binnakandi Assembly seat. Owaisi’s involvement is expected to energize the campaign, especially in areas with a significant minority population where the AIUDF has traditionally been influential.
Owaisi’s speeches are anticipated to target both the BJP and the Congress, positioning the AIUDF as a crucial regional player. Ajmal, a key figure in Assam politics, aims to maintain his political standing amidst changing electoral dynamics, with the AIUDF working to strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of the polls.
In the previous Assam Assembly elections in 2016, the AIUDF secured 13 seats, establishing itself as a major opposition force in minority voter-dominated constituencies. In the 2021 elections, the party increased its seat count to 16 through an alliance with the Congress-led “Mahajot,” although the BJP-led coalition ultimately secured a majority.
