Asaram surrendered at Jodhpur Central Jail following the Rajasthan High Court’s confirmation of his life sentence in a 2013 minor rape case. Arriving in Jodhpur amidst tight security, he greeted supporters at the airport before heading to his ashram in Pal village and later visiting AIIMS Jodhpur for a medical check-up.
The surrender came after the High Court’s ruling rejecting Asaram’s appeal and revoking his interim bail. Despite efforts to delay surrender on medical grounds, legal consultations led to the decision to proceed with his arrest. The court upheld the lower court’s life imprisonment verdict, emphasizing the victim’s enduring suffering.
In the same judgment, the High Court acquitted co-accused Shilpi and Sharat Chandra, citing insufficient evidence of their involvement in any criminal conspiracy. The case stemmed from allegations of a minor student’s assault at Manai Ashram in Jodhpur, resulting in Asaram’s conviction and life sentence in 2018.
