Filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker has been chosen as the Festival Director for the 57th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting announced his appointment on Friday.
Ashutosh Gowariker is renowned for directing successful films like ‘Lagaan’, ‘Swades’, and ‘Jodhaa Akbar’, known for their compelling storytelling and exploration of social themes. His film ‘Lagaan’ was even nominated for an Academy Award.
Expressing his pride, Ashutosh Gowariker stated, “It gives me immense pride and joy to serve as the Festival Director for the prestigious 57th International Film Festival of India, Goa.” He also mentioned his long-standing association with the festival, dating back to 1984.
The International Film Festival of India, established in 1952, is a significant platform for global cinema excellence and cultural exchange. Ashutosh Gowariker has also previously chaired the Feature Film Jury for the 71st National Film Awards.
