Asian Games medalist Sutirtha Mukherjee played a crucial role in Dabang Delhi TTC’s 8-7 win over HVR Kolkata ThunderBlades in Ultimate Table Tennis Season 7. Initially trailing, Delhi turned the tide with Sutirtha’s impressive performance against Ayhika Mukherjee, securing a remarkable comeback victory to maintain their unbeaten streak this season.
The match started with overseas singles fixtures, where Egypt’s Youssef Abdelaziz secured a win for Delhi against Romania’s Eduard Ionescu. However, Kolkata equalized as Singapore’s Zeng Jian defeated Spain’s Maria Xiao in a closely contested match. Delhi then took the lead in the mixed doubles with Sathiyan and Maria Xiao’s victory over Ankur Bhattacharjee and Zeng Jian.
In a dramatic turn of events, Ankur Bhattacharjee of Kolkata stunned Sathiyan Gnanasekaran in the men’s singles, putting Kolkata on the brink of victory. But Sutirtha Mukherjee rose to the challenge, winning all three games against Ayhika Mukherjee to secure the win for Delhi in a nail-biting finish.
For her outstanding performance, Sutirtha was named the Indian Player of the Tie, while Ankur Bhattacharjee received the Player of the Tie and Shot of the Tie awards. Zeng Jian was honored as the Foreign Player of the Tie for his contribution.
