Assam BJP MLA Jayanta Mallabaruah announced that the state government will take a firm stance against cases related to “love jihad.” He mentioned that the police are investigating the recent attack on two girls in Nalbari district to determine if more individuals were involved. The incident occurred near Gangapur, leading to the death of a 19-year-old girl, Madhurjya Barman, and leaving another 18-year-old girl, Mridumudra Deka, critically injured.

The main accused in the attack, Roz Ali, passed away during a police encounter in the Mukalmua area while trying to escape arrest. The injured girl, Mridumudra Deka, is currently receiving treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. The victims were reportedly assaulted by Roz Ali and another individual, Ashik Ali, while riding a scooter, prompting a search operation to locate the suspects across the district.

Assam MLA Jayanta Mallabaruah visited the injured girl at the hospital and noted her improved condition, although she remains critical due to severe injuries. He commended the Assam Police for their prompt actions in the case, mentioning that the main accused was shot by the police while allegedly attempting to attack them. Mallabaruah also highlighted the police’s ongoing investigation into potential accomplices in the incident.

Mallabaruah expressed concerns over the rise in “love jihad” incidents and assured that the Assam government would uphold stringent measures. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the victim’s family by covering all medical expenses and providing necessary assistance. The MLA condemned the attack, stating that such incidents had not previously occurred in Nalbari district, causing distress and fear among the locals.
