Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the state’s burgeoning startup scene, attributing its success to dedicated policy backing, institutional support, and a focus on youth-driven innovation. Under the Assam Startup initiative, 615 startups have been nurtured through the NEST incubation program since 2021, offering crucial mentorship, infrastructure, and funding opportunities to young visionaries. This initiative has effectively facilitated the evolution of inventive concepts into viable businesses spanning various industries.
Sarma disclosed that the state government has established a Rs 200 crore Assam Venture Capital Fund to provide essential financial aid to promising startups in their nascent and expansion phases. The fund aims to bridge the gap between innovation and investment, empowering local entrepreneurs to compete nationally without relocating. Additionally, the Chief Minister’s Aatmanirbhar Assam Abhijan (CMAAA) has supported numerous young entrepreneurs by furnishing financial aid, skill enhancement, and market connections.
Emphasizing the significance of the Chief Minister’s Aatmanirbhar Assam Abhijan (CMAAA), Sarma highlighted its role in fostering self-employment and business establishment, particularly among rural and semi-urban youth. Celebrating National Startup Day, Sarma commended the innovative spirit and entrepreneurial drive shaping India’s future, affirming Assam’s commitment to nurturing an inclusive and dynamic startup ecosystem. The government’s focus lies in cultivating a conducive environment where young individuals can innovate, take risks, and create lasting impacts.
Sarma noted that Assam’s startup landscape is diversifying beyond conventional sectors into domains like agri-tech, food processing, healthcare, education technology, and sustainable enterprises. Efforts are underway to bolster incubation infrastructure, streamline business operations, and enhance collaboration among academia, industry, and startups. Viewing startups as pivotal catalysts for economic progress, job creation, and technological advancement, Sarma highlighted Assam’s trajectory towards becoming a prominent startup hub in the Northeast and beyond.
