External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, along with Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, jointly unveiled an agro-processing facility in Trinidad and Tobago. This initiative stems from a commitment made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit in July 2025, as highlighted by Jaishankar. The project aims to bolster Trinidad and Tobago’s Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) ecosystem and revitalize its farming sector.
Earlier, Jaishankar and the Trinidad PM collaborated on a Quick Impact Project (QIP) on Nelson Island, marking the arrival of the first Indians in the nation. Through Indian support, this project seeks to preserve and showcase a shared heritage, as mentioned by Jaishankar. Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar acknowledged India’s fulfillment of commitments to Trinidad and Tobago, including initiatives like providing prosthetic limbs to 800 citizens and offering healthcare support such as hemodialysis units and sea ambulances.
Furthermore, the EAM participated in a ceremony where ‘Made in India’ laptops were presented to school children in Trinidad and Tobago, in line with Prime Minister Modi’s prior pledge. Reflecting on the historic ties between the two nations, Jaishankar emphasized the warm relations shaped by shared history, anti-colonial struggles, and a special cricket bond. He also announced the finalization of agreements during the visit, including those related to tourism, solarization of buildings, Quick Impact Projects, and establishing an Ayurveda Chair.
