Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently revealed significant aviation infrastructure projects in the state. He emphasized the importance of the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) at Moran for national security, dismissing comparisons to civilian structures. Sarma disclosed plans for four new airports in Majuli, Diphu, Umrangso, and Manas to enhance regional connectivity and accessibility in remote areas.
The Chief Minister highlighted the commencement of aircraft landing operations at Guwahati’s new airport terminal from February 22. This development is expected to boost passenger capacity, enhance travel experiences, and establish Guwahati as a key aviation hub in the Northeast. Sarma defended the Moran ELF, stating its critical role during emergencies and floods, emphasizing its strategic significance for defense logistics.
Sarma also mentioned the government’s intention to construct more Emergency Landing Facilities in the future to strengthen preparedness and national security. He criticized opposition leaders, warning against hindering strategic infrastructure projects that are vital for the nation’s interests.
