Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that approximately 80,000 individuals in the severely flooded areas of Upper Assam are still awaiting relief efforts due to challenges in reaching marooned villages. In Nazira, around 50,000 people and in Sivasagar, another 30,000 residents remain inaccessible despite ongoing rescue operations.

Sarma mentioned that while water levels are receding in some areas, the connectivity to remote villages remains disrupted, making it difficult for relief agencies to provide assistance. Teams comprising the NDRF, SDRF, Army, and local administrations are persistently working to access these isolated regions using boats and other available means.

The Chief Minister expressed optimism that relief operations will soon reach all affected individuals, emphasizing continuous monitoring of the situation and the deployment of additional resources as needed. He also confirmed that the death toll due to the floods has reached 50 in the state, with the possibility of a rise as search operations continue and missing persons are accounted for.

Sarma highlighted the severe impact on electricity infrastructure, with over 60,000 households facing power outages in various parts of the state. Despite ongoing restoration efforts, repairs have been delayed due to access challenges in inundated areas. Additionally, he announced the impending arrival of a Central government inter-ministerial team to assess flood damage and evaluate the need for financial aid and rehabilitation measures in Assam.

Upper Assam districts, particularly Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat, have been severely affected by extensive flooding this season following heavy rainfall and inflows from upstream rivers, prompting large-scale rescue and relief operations.
