Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the Congress, alleging that the party is selling tickets for the upcoming Assembly elections in exchange for money. Sarma claimed that the extent of these transactions will be revealed once the party announces its candidates. He emphasized the need for transparency in ticket distribution, stating that candidates themselves would confirm his allegations.
Sarma highlighted that the BJP has the authority to determine seat allocations for its allies, including the Asom Gana Parishad and Gana Shakti. Similarly, he mentioned that it is the Congress’s internal decision to allocate seats to its allies like Raijor Dal and the Assam Jatiya Parishad. However, Sarma stressed the importance of maintaining ethical standards, particularly emphasizing that tickets should not be sold for financial gain.
The Chief Minister accused senior Congress leaders of turning the ticket distribution process into a means of fundraising, extending beyond elections to other events like weddings. He warned against compromising the democratic principles of fair ticket allocation. Sarma’s comments come amidst escalating political tensions between the BJP and Congress ahead of the Assembly polls.
